Research Projects – Innovation as a Solution to the Environmental Challenges of Our Time

At Sensatec, our focus is always on technological advancement. Through our research projects, we contribute to the optimization of existing remediation techniques and the development of new remediation solutions, for example, for emerging contaminants such as PFAS.

The projects combine cutting-edge technologies, practical applications, and scientific expertise to develop forward-looking solutions for the industrial and technology sectors.
To this end, we work in close collaboration with universities, research institutions, and our industry partners.

Our research activities range from the development of new remediation technologies and innovative drilling methods to the development of new remediation reagents. Each approach is aimed at improving the efficiency, precision, and sustainability of remediation processes.

Our Current Research Projects

MIBIREM

MIBIREM

In this EU Horizon research project, we are working with 11 partners from 6 different EU countries to establish the scientific foundation for harnessing the exceptional abilities of microbial communities to degrade pollutants in the soil.

The goal is to develop a microbiological “toolbox” for the isolation, cultivation, and application of microbial consortia for the biological remediation of contaminated soils.

MISABI

This research project aims to use food-grade biosurfactants to increase the bioavailability of volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons (VCHs) in order to accelerate the biological degradation of these compounds in groundwater.

MIBICYD

MIBICYD

This R&D project aims to develop a new method for the biological remediation of cyanide-contaminated groundwater. The process subjects not only mobile cyanides but even complex-bound hexacyanoferrate complexes to biological attack and degradation.

WaMiSAR

WaMiSAR

This R&D project is developing and researching strategies and technologies for more sustainable use of water resources in the mining sector in southern Africa. The effectiveness of various technologies is being demonstrated at several mining sites in South Africa and Namibia.

Our Completed Research Projects

FABEKO

FABEKO

As part of the FABEKO project, the biopolymer soil washing process for the on-site remediation of PFAS-contaminated soil was developed in collaboration with the UFZ in Leipzig-Halle and the industry partners Geologik(Münster) and Mull & Partner(Osnabrück).

BioKon

In this project, conducted in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin and the partner company Geologik in Münster, a method for the in-situ elution of PFAS to treat contaminated soil was developed and successfully implemented in practice.

BioSolidEncap

In this research project, a method for the microbial encapsulation of pollutants using calcium-precipitating bacteria (MICP) was developed and successfully implemented as a pilot project at a mine waste dump site in North Rhine-Westphalia.

SDI-DGI Project

In this research project, conducted in collaboration with the Leipzig-Halle Environmental Research Center (UFZ), a method was developed to combine direct gas injection (DGI) with the injection of oxygen-supersaturated water (SDI). The goal was to improve oxygen supply in heavily oxygen-depleting, contaminated aquifers.

AGaTe – Anaerobic Gas Wall Technology

To expand the applicability of gas wall technology for the anaerobic in-situ treatment of groundwater, this project developed a technology for the implementation of mixed gas injections based on ethylene/oxygen injections and propane/butane pulse injections.
