Free oil phase up to 4 m thick, was detected at several monitoring points at a tank storage site off the Moroccan Atlantic. Bail-down tests confirmed that there was a possibility of intensive supply of mid-fraction oils to the ground water. Consequently, Sensatec designed, implemented and operated a pneumatic oil phase extraction system covering large parts of the tank area. The system was installed mainly in the inner explosion protection zone of the tank bearing. After only a few months of operation, the floating oil phase had decreased by 70 - 90%.
